About Us

Songwriter Secret

The Songwriter Secret Story

Our core ethos

At Songwriter Secret, we believe the best way to learn music is to make it. Too often, people try to learn an instrument without fully feeling what they’re playing. If music is truly creative — and not just about performance — why not start with the ‘creating’ part? That’s where we come in.

How did it all begin?

Like all great ideas, Songwriter Secret started with a spark of inspiration. Founder Karim Bedda noticed, through his own experience with both sides of music education, that traditional approaches to learning music often miss a key element: creativity. Many courses focus too much on theory, leaving students too tangled in the details to really feel the music. On the flip side, some more improvisational methods are great if you already know what you’re doing — but what about those just starting, who need more structure to build a solid foundation?

Where do we fit in?

That’s where we come in. Drawing on both music education and drama training, Karim set out to create a space where you can start your musical journey with confidence. We focus on the essential tools that underpin the music you love — but in the most practical way possible, so you’re making your own music from day one.

What types of courses do we run?

Located in the vibrant seaside town of Brighton, UK, Songwriter Secret offers a growing range of courses, both in-person and online. From exciting workshops to performing shows, we also work with schools and businesses to bring creative music-making to teams and students alike.

Karim, here to help you find your voice 🎤

Karim is an accomplished musician and composer who has been teaching music for over 12 years, having graduated with a degree in performance and composition from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. As well as winning the college’s composition award in 2013 and having his music played by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, he has continued to teach people of all ages how to play and understand music.

Since then, he has also toured stages across the UK and beyond as an actor-musician, and has even been called upon as Benedict Cumberbatch's violin- and piano-playing hands for BBC's Sherlock and Marvel's Doctor Strange, as well as playing in, and writing songs for, his bands and musical projects.

With this wide range of performance, writing, and teaching experience behind him, Karim brings a unique perspective to the task of helping others improve their songwriting skills, reflected in the material that has been developed for our courses.
